Mikey vows that he will do everything in his power to ensure that his life will not echo the poverty of that of his parents. Liverpool is his target and it is to there that he escapes and makes his home. His ambition and determination enables him to create a successful life for himself. But happiness is something that Mikey is unable to maintain and, despite achieving so much, he still manages to create pain and misery for many of those around him.
